I’m going to sound cliché but age is state of mind. Yes, our bodies get older. Our hair turns gray. But the way we feel is all up to us.
L’Oreal Paris recently sent me their latest L’Oreal Paris Infallible Paints collection. I’ve been enjoying these products so much, I just had to do a post. Other than the product I received, I’m not being sponsored to write this. But when something works for me, you know I need to share. Also, I’m often asked if I really wear L’Oreal products as much as I say I do, and the answer is yes. I’ve been wearing True Match foundation since 2004 (Sand Beige specifically), and continue to find new reasons to come back for more. The Infallible Paints collection is perfect for creating a raspberry (and shimmer) Spring look.
I started this blog back in 2010. Back when bloggers were just realizing they can make a living off their own little corner of the internet. I had no idea what I was doing but I knew that I loved to write, I loved photography, I loved art and I loved to learn. I bought a URL, and the rest was history. I spent countless hours learning how to code, edit photos, edit my writing and market my work. My hustle eventually landed me a job with an Influencer marketing agency changing the trajectory of my entire life. I’d heard the term reinventing yourself before, but looking back at the last decade of my life, I can say I’m mastering the art it and it’s been amazing journey.
Here is the one the outfits I wore to #WeAllGrow Summit 2017 in Long Beach (post coming soon!). I actually wore this on our first day to greet attendees who were headed out to field trips bright and early in the morning. I wanted something professional but comfortable to wear for this day. People are flying in from all over the country (and the world), I think it’s important that the team honor everyone’s time (and travels) by presenting well. Even if it means getting up at 5am to get this mane under control. When you’re the face of a company or in charge of an event, you should show up and show out so everyone feels welcomed and comfortable in your presence. When I need to be cool as a cucumber under pressure, I navigate toward the color blue.
Welcome to my rebranded blog! It’s still a work in progress but if you take a look around, you will see things have changed. For example, my boutique is a lot more visible and will be soon filled with the products featured in my posts. There will also be a lot more artisan products, like this gorgeous suede fringe clutch purse handmade in Italy.
I’m not going to start this post and pretend that there’s not an adorable furry guest in the photo who needs to approve all of my makeup remover picks, like this one from Neutrogena. That’s Apollo, and he always has to make a debut when I take product shots. In fact, this was moments before he knocked everything down. But this was too cute not to share. Plus, he’s a pro at resting and knows what to do to avoid aging while you sleep.
OK, maybe he doesn’t.
I often get questions about my hair care routine, so I thought I would write a post about it in case you were wondering too. As you can tell from all of my pictures, I have a lot of hair. What many people don’t know is that it’s actually really curly. I don’t usually wear it natural because my curls drop quickly no matter what I do. It’s a combination of it naturally not holding curls well and all of the stuff I’ve done to it over the years. It just falls flat.
Chic, sexy and comfortable? It’s possible, my friends. It is possible. You know I’m all about modern, clean and effortless style. I don’t like a lot of fuss. You don’t need to do a lot to make the most out of your look. You just need to know what works for your body, curate your personal closet essentials and take it from there. Style is something you exude when you feel good about what you’re wearing – the fit, colors, design, silhouette, and so on.
It’s crunch time as we prepare for our 3rd annual #WeAllGrow Summit! I still have not picked out all of my outfits for this three day event starting on March 1st. One thing is for sure, I will need to wear flats because heels are just not smart for conferences if you’re spending the whole day on your feet like me (trust me, my feet hated me last year). I know, I know. I wore them here and here. But I wasn’t working those events. When you’re attending, you can throw on your diva heels. When you’re working, comfort is priority.
Can I just wear a poncho for the next few months? They’re always my go-to this time of year. During these months, LA tends to be cloudy and rainy, work is on overload as we prep for our conference and I’m usually working on several freelance projects. I love this Stitchfix two-in-one off the shoulder number. Dadly it’s already sold out, and I didn’t see many like to choose from. I hope they bring it back. My friends and I joke around about caftans and ponchos being a must as you get older. I have no qualms channeling my inner Mrs. Roper. With every year that goes by, I’m totally appreciating the ease and style of draping fabrics.
Let me tell you, it’s not an easy thing to stick to when TMJ symptoms come creeping in. But I’ve been trying. A little over a week ago, I kinked up my neck on the couch waiting for my son to get home from a party. I must’ve slumped over in exhaustion. Well, when I got up the room was spinning. All I could say was “Darn it! Not again!”. I thought I rid myself of this awful symptom. It was so annoying, but I was determined to not let it get the best of me. It’s transient and all part of the healing process. Between my orthotic, chiropractic appointments and physical therapy, my body is shifting and trying to find its ideal position. I really cannot do more than what I’m already doing. When a symptom pops up, I acknowledge it, take a deep breath and try not to let it take a hold of me.
Hey, OK, you’re here, you can settle down. It’s all good.
